Before BCS title game, Golic and his Fighting Irish sons encounter Bama fans — in a Connecticut diner
A Connecticut ‘Bama fan in Mike Golic’s favorite café turned the tables on an otherwise relaxing holiday respite from his family’s quest for the BCS National Championship.
“Unfortunately, unlike my sons, I never played for a championship in college or in the NFL,” said Golic, co-host of ESPN Radio’s Mike & Mike in the Morning, regarding the rare time he got to spend with his sons Mike, Jr., an offensive lineman, and Jake, a tight end, on Notre Dame’s topped-ranked, undefeated Fighting Irish squad. “And I’m reminded of it all the time.”
That’s the kind of grief “the boys,” as Mike refers to them, gave their dad during their recent stopover in their hometown of Avon, Conn. They were en route from South Bend, Ind. to Miami for Monday’s Discover BCS National Championship Game against No. 2 Alabama (8:30 p.m. ET, ESPN, ESPN Deportes, ESPN Radio & ESPN 3D).
While much of the give-and-take is captured in the piece, scheduled to debut on SportsCenter later today and air throughout the weekend leading up to Monday’s game, Front Row was able to obtain bonus footage of the family’s trip to its favorite breakfast spot.
While the Golics were thinking of breakfast rolls, others were thinking “Roll Tide” at the Simsbury, Conn.’s Harvest Cafe & Bakery.
