This past Saturday, Mike & Mike co-host Mike Greenberg added “Honorary Team Captain of the Northwestern Football Team” to his already impressive resume. A proud alum of Northwestern, “Greeny” was asked by Wildcats head coach Pat Fitzgerald to “lead” the team for its home-opener against the Syracuse Orange, a 48-27 win for the 2-0 Cats.
Front Row caught up with Greeny coming off his once-in-a-lifetime gig.
How was your overall experience?
The entire experience was unforgettable. Coach Fitzgerald and the players really made me feel like a part of the team. And the best part was having my kids along for the ride on the team bus and in the winning locker room. It was a weekend they’ll never forget either.
How did you prepare for such a huge responsibility?
I asked for advice from the many football players and coaches I am privileged to work with every day – especially Herm Edwards. If I needed a motivational speech made, I’d ask him to make it.
How do you think you contributed to the win over Syracuse?
I think it goes without saying my captaincy was a huge part of our success on the field. I feel fairly confident if they had me for every game we would win the National Championship.
