Off Camera with. . . Peter Burns

Editor’s note: Welcome to Off Camera with. . ., a Front Row series that introduces you to some of the studio anchors who have recently joined ESPN. Today, we meet Peter Burns, a studio host for SEC Network who joined ESPN in August 2014.
How did you choose your profession?: I won a national contest in 2002 with Fox Sports Radio to host a radio show for a day. A month later, I quit my job to take a job in sports radio. Twelve years later, I’m here.
Favorite team: My favorite team is the LSU Tigers as I was born in Baton Rouge, La.
Favorite sports moment: My Dad and I got last-minute tickets to see LSU play Loyola Marymount in 1990. LSU won 148-141 in overtime, easily the best game I ever attended.
Something we don’t know about you: I won a Texas high school golf championship in 1997.
Best advice you have ever received: Handwritten notes are never a bad idea.
Favorite hobby: Golf.
One book everyone should read: Two books: 1) Dale Carnegie’s “How to Win Friends & Influence People” 2) Tom Brokaw’s “The Greatest Generation.”
Thankful for: Never having to feel like I work a day in my life.
Favorite place to travel: Italy and Greece.
Words of wisdom: Life is too short not to try to cross out everything on your bucket list as soon as possible. Live like you are retired now, don’t wait.
Favorite movie: “Inglourious Basterds”
Favorite season of year: April: Golf, Final Four, Opening Day and good weather.
Do you have pets and if so, what are their names: Two pet stuffed koalas, KJ and Kiki.
