On April 1, ESPN and Pizza Hut awarded New Jersey-based high school teacher Michael Owdij with the “Pizza Hut Commissioner of the Year” award, the last and most prestigious award from the “Pizza Hut Commissioner of the Week” contest. Owdij, a native of Branchburg, N.J., is the Commissioner of “The Hoosh in the Boosh” fantasy football league which boasts its unique trophy – three-foot bronze ram titled “The Ramstein.”
Owdij was selected for the award on Jan. 4, during the Pizza Hut Commissioner of the Year Award Show hosted by ESPN NFL reporter Field Yates. Owdij nominated by his friend Mike Ace on ESPN.com/Pizzahut.
“The trip was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for both me and Mike [Ace]. The employees from ESPN took time out of their day to make a bucket list day for the two of us,” Owdij said.
“The highlights of the trip were definitely meeting the ESPN personalities I see and listen to everyday and taking photos at the SportsCenter desk!”
In addition to an exclusive tour of the Bristol, Conn., ESPN campus and a meet and greet with select talent, Owdij was presented with his award: a custom ruby and diamond-encrusted ring valued at $10,000, made by renowned championship ring creator Jostens.
In its ninth week, the competition also honored Mike Jones, an active Marine who spearheads “The Red Lions” fantasy football league, with a bobblehead in his likeness on the set of Mike & Mike.
