Journalism Showcase: Inside the making of E60’s “The Other Hurley,” debuting Saturday morning on ESPN
ESPN's David Seronick, who co-produced and co-directed the profile of the fiery UCONN leader: "I hope viewers get a complete sense of who Coach [Dan] Hurley truly is, from the good to the bad and everything in between."
Saturday, the newest edition of ESPN E60 debuts with “The Other Hurley,” a one-hour feature examining the ascension of UConn men’s head basketball coach Dan Hurley, winner of the past two NCAA Division I championships. The episode airs at 11 a.m. ET on ESPN, with an extended version streaming afterward on ESPN+
“The Other Hurley” was produced and directed by ESPN associate producer David Seronick and feature producer Dan Lindberg. A contributor to the production of other episodes of E60 over the past seven years, Seronick had his first opportunity to direct an hour-long episode after producing “Chris Weidman: The Return” in 2023 and “Pat Tillman: Life. Death. Legacy” in 2024.

Seronick started at ESPN in the spring of 2016 as a radio production assistant, having worked at stations in Connecticut for five years. He spent 18 months with ESPN Radio before entering the Content Associate Program (or CAP, now ESPN NEXT) in November 2017.
Seronick spoke with Front Row:
With this being your first E60 as director, what are your thoughts on having the opportunity?
E60 is a show/brand that I grew up consuming, and I have always been such an admirer of the work they produced. Being able to contribute in this capacity is truly a dream come true. Though I have been buried in the work, when I have allowed myself to take a step back and realize what is actually happening, it’s been pretty special.
Was there something that happened during the production of this feature that you found surprising?
I have not heard many, if any, people in Coach Hurley’s position or of his stature speak so openly about themselves in totality. From his strengths to his weaknesses, from his acknowledged flaws and shortcomings to his improbable success, from his lowest moments to his highest, Coach Hurley was beyond candid in our sit-downs and truly pulled the curtains back on who he is and why.
What would you like viewers to take away from “The Other Hurley?”
That there is always more to a person you see on TV. Through the people who know him best, I hope viewers get a complete sense of who Coach Hurley truly is, from the good to the bad and everything in between.
