EDITOR’S NOTE: On the eve of X Games Aspen, ESPN’s Jason Krutzsch, director, X Games Content Strategy, provides background on the new series called Xplained.
ASPEN, Colo. — This year we are gearing up to produce 26.5 live hours of content over the four days at X Games Aspen 2020.
Leading up to the event one of our preview content efforts is a new video series called Xplained. The goal of the series is to expand our audience and educate fans on key athlete stories by working with our sport analysts to break down the tricks that separate the gold medal moments.
The Xplained series include preview videos from our ski analyst and former X Games gold medalist Tom Wallisch and the voice of snowboarding and defending Real Snow bronze medalist, Craig McMorris.
The videos will be used across X Games digital and social platforms with specific cuts used on XGames.com, Instagram TV, YouTube and cutdowns that will air in the X Games Aspen 2020 broadcast across ESPN and ABC.
The first two videos are live with McMorris breaking down Snowboard Slopestyle and his brother Mark McMorris’ walk-off win in 2019, and Wallisch walking fans through Ski Big Air, Slopestyle and SuperPipe.
These videos were produced and edited by Shawn Howard, associate director of X Games Production. This series is a must watch for the global X Games community looking for more insight and the growing social/digital audience to better understand the detail that goes into winning the most coveted medal in action sports, X Games Gold.
In addition to the Xplained series, our team is focused on creating daily content to serve the global action sports community and build awareness for key stories as we head towards Aspen 2020.
Key projects include our on the ground athlete series, X Games Session, featuring day-in-the-life episodes with Red Gerard, Alex Ferreira and Mark McMorris as well as our signature Being series show featuring the in-depth stories on Danny Davis, Max Parrot, Kelly Sildaru and Henrik Harlaut.
The Being series and the official X Games Aspen Preview show will air on ABC as part of the World of X Games during the month of January.
For all content you can check out XGames.com and @XGames across Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Facebook. X Games Aspen 2020 begins Thursday, Jan. 23 and continues through Sunday, Jan. 26 live across ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC.
