The Monday Lineup: 5 ESPN moments from the weekend and for the week ahead PLUS: Jorge Sedano pulling double duty
Jorge Sedano joined ESPN Radio in September 2013 as co-host, along with Mark Schlereth, of Sedano & Stink, weekdays from 7-10 p.m. ET. He quickly showed his versatility, subbing on Mike & Mike, The Herd with Colin Cowherd and SVP & Russillo, as well as reporting for SportsCenter. This week, he returns as a debater on ESPN2’s First Take (M-F at 10 a.m.) and will host Sedano & Stink solo Monday–Thursday. Front Row asked Sedano about his busy schedule.
How do you prepare for First Take?
I have debated on First Take several times and it’s a lot like radio. The producers and other talent do a great job communicating about the best discussion topics.
On long days this week, will you nap to keep the energy up?
Ha! Well, I’m not much of a napper nor do I drink caffeine. This week I’ll have to get a dose of both.
You were a martial arts champion as a youth?
I started training at six with an unbelievable instructor who got the best out of everyone. I trained with a fantastic group and we pushed each other to many state, national and international championships.
Unfortunately, I haven’t trained seriously in about a decade. Occasionally, I throw on gloves and punch/kick the heavy bag at the Bristol gym. I know I can still demonstrate proper technique.
How do you use Twitter and react to “negative” tweets?
I love Twitter. I use it to gauge hot button topics. I study, then throw out my opinion. A big response means a good on-air discussion.
I enjoy interacting on Twitter, specifically trading barbs with negative tweeters. I’m self-deprecating, which usually disarms people when I respond to their negativity.
Tell us about your efforts to help rescue dogs.
In Miami, my wife and I rescued Ruby. She was abused, had health troubles and was afraid of her shadow. After a few months, she was as sweet a dog as we’ve ever had.
We became involved with Dachshund Rescue of South Florida. We’d participate in adoption meet-ups, make donations and transport dogs.
Unfortunately, Ruby passed away from cancer. Rescuing dogs is so rewarding and we’d like to get involved with a local rescue this year.
